Concrete Counters Built for Detroit Outdoor Kitchens
Outdoor concrete counters face a different set of demands than indoor surfaces. Rain, snow, freeze-thaw cycles, UV exposure, and road salt all work against the slab. We design and pour outdoor countertops with air-entrained freeze-thaw mix, slope every surface for drainage, profile edges to shed meltwater, and seal with an exterior-grade finish. The result is a durable counter for your BBQ surround, outdoor kitchen, or pool-deck bar. Free written estimate included.
- Air-entrained freeze-thaw concrete
- Sloped for water runoff
- Exterior sealer rated for UV and salt
Engineering for climate
Why Outdoor Concrete Countertops Need Different Design
The concrete slab itself is only part of the story. A countertop that works indoors, sealed for food safety and daily wear, will spall and crack within two winters if poured outside without the right mix and geometry. The freeze-thaw cycle, standing water, and UV all accelerate failure.
Our outdoor counters start with an air-entrained concrete mix that allows water inside the slab to expand safely during freeze cycles. Every horizontal surface slopes slightly so meltwater and rain run off rather than pool. Edges are profiled with a drip detail so water sheds cleanly from the front face. The finish is textured for grip in wet conditions, and sealed with an exterior-grade sealer rated for UV and salt drift.
When your outdoor counter is part of a larger yard project, we tie it into the pool deck levels and finishes, coordinate with any patio base, and ensure the outdoor kitchen surround flows as one piece.
Our process
How We Cast Outdoor Countertops in Detroit
-
Measure the outdoor space
We visit the site to measure the BBQ surround, outdoor kitchen footprint, any appliance cutouts (cooktop, burner, sink, ice bin), bar overhang, and how the counter connects to existing hardscape, roof structure, or shelter.
-
Build forms with drainage slope
Forms are constructed to slope every horizontal surface for water runoff, edges are profiled with a drip detail to shed meltwater, and reinforcement is sized for the span and freeze-thaw loading. Appliance cutouts are framed to spec.
-
Pour and finish the slab
We place air-entrained freeze-thaw concrete, consolidate it fully, allow proper curing time, then grind and hone the surface to the chosen finish. Outdoor counters typically get a slightly textured surface for traction in wet conditions.
-
Seal and schedule maintenance
The finished concrete is sealed with an exterior-grade sealer rated for UV, freeze-thaw, and salt exposure. We provide a re-seal schedule (typically every 2-3 years in Detroit) so you know when to refresh the protection.
Durability through seasons
Outdoor Counters That Handle Detroit Winters
The difference between an outdoor counter that lasts and one that fails in two years comes down to mix design and surface geometry. An indoor concrete countertop poured outside will spall. A great-looking surface without slope will hold meltwater and stain. We engineer for both.
When the outdoor counter is part of a larger outdoor space, we coordinate the slab thickness, reinforcement, and finish with the outdoor kitchen base structure, the patio surface below, and any pool deck connection so everything drains and finishes as one system.

Common questions
Outdoor Concrete Countertop Questions, Answered
Freeze-thaw mix, drainage, sealers and matching outdoor counters to indoor.
BBQ surround counter with a side-burner cutout. Two winters in, zero spalling, drains beautifully, sealer is doing its job. Outdoor kitchen feels permanent now.
Pool-bar counter in a finish that matches our indoor kitchen counters. Same family, slightly more texture outside. The match is a real conversation piece.
They were straight that outdoor counters need re-sealing every few years and built that into the price up front. The first refresh kept the surface looking new. Worth doing.
Edge profile drains meltwater perfectly, no ice ridges along the front like other concrete counters we have seen. The detail work is what makes this last.
