Kitchen & Bath Concrete Countertops Built in Detroit

Concrete countertops for kitchens, bathrooms and bars that start with your dimensions and end with a sealed, food-safe surface. We cast them two ways: in place on your cabinetry or in our shop and installed once fully cured. Every project includes templating, a written quote, and a maintenance plan so the countertop lasts.

  • Two casting methods available
  • Food-safe sealed finish
  • Free on-site template and quote

Why concrete

When Concrete Countertops Beat Stone and Laminate

Concrete is not a substitute for granite or quartz. It is a different choice entirely, one that lets you specify the exact color, edge profile, surface finish and any inlays or integrated features you want. A kitchen island with a built-in drainboard, a bath vanity with an integral basin, a bar with a custom edge that matches your cabinetry detail, these are the jobs concrete does better than anything else.

The casting method depends on your situation. Cast-in-place means the form sits on your cabinets, the concrete pours and cures in the kitchen, then gets ground and sealed in place. Shop-cast means we build and cure the slab in our facility, then install it as finished pieces. One method keeps your kitchen cleaner during the build; the other creates seamless, integrated runs. We recommend the right approach based on your layout and timeline.

Our full countertop service includes both indoor and outdoor options. Many homeowners pair an indoor kitchen counter with an outdoor concrete surface for a cohesive look. We also coordinate with other residential concrete work on your property.

The sequence

How Concrete Countertops Get Built and Installed

  1. On-site template and design lock

We measure the cabinet run, mark every sink cutout, cooktop opening, faucet hole and edge detail. You choose the color, finish level (matte, satin, polished), edge profile and any inlays. Nothing moves forward until the design is locked.

  2. Build forms and place reinforcement

Forms are constructed to match the template exactly, with the edge profile built into the mold. Rebar or wire mesh is positioned at the right depth. Color pigment and any decorative inlays (glass, stone, wood) are added to the concrete mix.

  3. Pour, cure and grind the surface

Concrete is placed and vibrated to remove air, then left to cure on schedule. Once cured, the surface is ground progressively finer, then honed or polished to the finish you selected.

  4. Seal and hand off with care plan

A food-safe sealer rated for kitchen use is applied. You receive written instructions on maintenance, including when to re-seal (typically every 2-3 years) so the countertop stays protected and looking new.

Real-world use

Sealed Concrete Surfaces Handle Kitchen Work

A concrete countertop in a working kitchen takes hot pans, sharp knives, spills and daily wear. The sealer is what protects the surface from staining and etching. Applied correctly and re-sealed on schedule, a concrete top performs as well as any high-end surface. Neglected, it will show marks. We are direct about that on every quote because the maintenance matters as much as the initial install.

Different kitchens need different sealer recommendations. A busy family kitchen gets a more robust sealer than a guest bath. The quote includes the long-term care plan, not just the casting and install. This is how we approach every residential concrete floor and patio project as well, the finish is only as good as the maintenance that follows.

Common questions

Indoor Concrete Countertop Questions, Answered

Cast-in-place vs shop-cast, sealers, food-safety, maintenance and edge profiles.

Cast-in-place is best for long integrated runs, integrated drainboards and seamless looks; shop-cast is best when the kitchen has to stay clean during construction and the pieces can be lifted into place. We recommend based on your kitchen and timeline.
Yes, when sealed with a food-safe sealer rated for kitchen use and maintained on the recommended re-seal schedule. Concrete itself is inert; the sealer is what stands between the surface and the spills, and it is what gets refreshed every few years.
Properly designed and cured concrete countertops do not crack in normal use. We engineer reinforcement and joints for the size and use of each top; hairline crazing in the surface is a normal characteristic of concrete and part of the look, not a structural issue.
Yes. Custom edge profiles (square, eased, ogee), inlays (glass, stone, wood), and integrated cast-in sinks are all options. Most of what makes a custom concrete countertop worth choosing over stone is the ability to do those things.
From template to install is typically several weeks because casting and curing are time-bound; the in-kitchen disruption itself is shorter, often just install day for shop-cast or a few days for cast-in-place. Full timeline is on the quote.

Cast-in-place island with an integrated drainboard. Could not have gotten this in stone. Honed finish, integral color, sealed beautifully. The kitchen now has its centerpiece.

Shop-cast vanity with an integrated basin. They templated, cast offsite, installed clean, sealed it. Bath now feels custom in the best way. Maintenance plan was clear up front.

Honest that concrete tops need re-sealing every few years and counted that into the quote. Better than pretending it would never need any care. The counter still looks new after two years.

Custom edge profile that matched our cabinetry detail exactly. Could not get that anywhere else. The kitchen looks designed, not assembled. Worth every dollar.
