Concrete Floors in Detroit, Finished for Living Space

Concrete floors are low-maintenance, allergen-free and built to last decades. We finish them polished, epoxy-coated, stained or with a micro-topping overlay, on a new slab or over an existing one, for kitchens, basements, open-concept main floors and more. Self-leveling underlayment goes down first when the base needs it, and every floor starts with a free written estimate.

Flat first

Why a Concrete Floor Starts Flat

Every concrete floor finish, polished, epoxy, stained or overlay, is only as good as the slab under it. Lippage, low spots and an out-of-tolerance surface telegraph straight through a finish, so flat comes first.

That is what self-leveling underlayment is for: a poured layer that brings an uneven or patched slab into tolerance before any finish goes on. When radiant heat is in the plan, heated floor underlayment encases the tubing in the same step.

From a flat, sound base we can take the floor anywhere, a high-gloss polished finish, a seamless epoxy coating, or a thin micro-topping overlay that resurfaces tired concrete without a tear-out.

How it works

How We Finish a Concrete Floor in Detroit

  1. Assess the existing slab

We check the existing concrete for moisture, cracks, flatness and old coatings, and confirm which finish suits the room and the slab.

  2. Grind, repair and level

We grind or shot-blast the surface, repair what needs it, and pour self-leveling underlayment where the slab is out of tolerance.

  3. Apply the floor finish

We polish, coat with epoxy, stain or lay a micro-topping, building the system to the manufacturer spec, primer through topcoat.

  4. Cure and walk it through

The finish cures, we walk the floor with you, and you get the care steps that keep a concrete floor looking new for decades.

Finish options

Concrete Floor Finishes for Every Room

The room sets the finish. A polished concrete floor suits open-concept main floors and basements, hard, bright and easy to clean, while an epoxy coating gives a seamless, chemical-resistant surface for shops and utility space.

For warmth and colour, stained concrete works acid or water-based dye into the slab for kitchens and sunrooms, and a micro-topping overlay lays a thin, seamless new surface over concrete that is sound but dated.

Common questions

Concrete Floor Questions, Answered

Finishes, prep, cost and what concrete floors are like to live with in Detroit.

We finish concrete floors polished, epoxy-coated, stained or with a micro-topping overlay, plus the self-leveling and heated-floor underlayment prep that goes underneath them.
Yes. Most residential floor work is done over an existing slab. We assess it for moisture, cracks and flatness, grind or repair as needed, and pour self-leveling underlayment if the surface is out of tolerance before the finish.
They are no colder than tile and pair well with radiant heat encased in heated-floor underlayment. They are hard, which is also why they are durable, low-maintenance and allergen-free, with no grout lines or carpet to hold dust.
Concrete floor finishes generally run $6 to $15 per square foot depending on the finish, the slab condition and how much prep or underlayment is needed. We confirm it with a written, itemised quote after seeing the slab.
We grind or shot-blast the surface and pour self-leveling underlayment where the slab is uneven. A finish only looks as good as the slab under it, so flat comes before anything decorative.

★★★★★

Polished the whole main floor after a reno. It is bright, dead easy to clean, and the self-leveler they poured first means there is not a single high spot.

★★★★★

Epoxy floor in the basement utility room. Seamless, wipes clean, and they built it up in proper coats instead of one quick layer.

★★★★★

Stained the kitchen floor a warm brown. The colour has depth you do not get from tile, and there are no grout lines to scrub.

★★★★★

Micro-topping over an old cracked slab in the sunroom. New seamless surface for a fraction of a tear-out, and you cannot tell what was underneath.
