Refined Polished Concrete Floors for Detroit Retail & Office
Grinding and polishing a concrete slab transforms it into a finished floor that reflects light, resists wear, and requires minimal upkeep. Detroit Concrete handles the full sequence for retail showrooms, office lobbies, mixed-use spaces and any commercial environment where the slab itself becomes the design. No coating sits on top; the densified concrete is the floor. Start with a free written estimate and a mockup grind on your existing slab.

Slab as finish, not coating
Why Polished Concrete Outlasts Coated Floors
A polished concrete floor is the slab itself, refined through diamond grits and densified chemically to harden the surface. There is no epoxy layer, no polyurethane topcoat, no finish that can peel or wear through. The concrete is the floor.
This approach works best where durability matters more than color options, where light reflection supports the design, and where maintenance stays simple. Retail spaces benefit from the reflective quality; offices appreciate the low-glare matte option; showrooms use high-sheen to showcase products. The densifier hardens the surface and is refreshed periodically to maintain hardness.
Our commercial epoxy flooring service handles spaces that need color or chemical resistance. For slabs that are badly out-of-tolerance, self-leveling underlayment brings them flat first. See all commercial floor options and the full commercial concrete range.
The sequence
How Detroit Concrete Polishes Your Slab
-
Evaluate the existing slab
We inspect the concrete for flatness, hardness and surface condition, note any cracks or spalls that need repair before polishing, and confirm your target gloss level and aggregate exposure preference.
-
Coarse grind to flatten
Progressive coarse diamond grits grind the slab flat, expose the aggregate level you chose (cream, salt-and-pepper or full), and prepare the surface for the honing phase.
-
Apply densifier and hone
A penetrating densifier is applied to chemically harden the concrete, then progressive honing grits refine the surface texture and begin building the sheen.
-
Final polish and guard
The final polishing grits bring the slab to your chosen gloss level, matte, satin or high-sheen, and a protective guard coat is applied to protect the surface during the first weeks of use.
Finish and upkeep
Polished Concrete Reveals the Slab You Poured
The aggregate exposure level you select up front determines the look. Cream-only gives a soft, uniform appearance with no stones showing. Salt-and-pepper exposes small aggregate for moderate visual interest. Full aggregate creates a terrazzo-like surface with large stones visible. Hairline shrinkage cracks and any patches in the original pour will show; that honesty is part of the aesthetic.
Before committing to the full polish, we grind a small mockup area on your slab so you see the actual finish on your actual concrete. Maintenance is straightforward: dust mop or auto-scrub daily, and refresh the densifier every few years depending on foot traffic. No waxing, no stripping, no recoating cycles like epoxy requires. Pair with retail and restaurant finishes or office and institutional concrete work as needed.

Polished Concrete Questions, Answered
Aggregate exposure, gloss levels, maintenance and when polished beats other finishes.
Polished slab in our showroom. Reflects the lighting beautifully, no maintenance beyond a daily auto-scrub. Three years in, the floor looks the same as the install day.
Salt-and-pepper exposure was the right choice for our office; not too busy, not too plain. The mockup before the full polish was the moment we knew.
High-sheen polish in a car showroom. The vehicles look incredible on the reflective floor, and the maintenance is dramatically lower than the epoxy we had before.
Polished concrete in the public lobby. Wears like granite, looks like designer concrete. The visiting tenants always comment on it.
