Safe Concrete Steps & Stairs in Detroit Start Below Ground

A staircase is only as good as what sits underneath it. We pour front-entry steps, full staircases and repair work with a frost-proof base and a rise that never varies, so every step feels the same underfoot. Free written estimate and a firm finish date.

  • Frost-proof base, no heave
  • Consistent rise and run, every step
  • Grip-textured treads, safe in winter

The foundation of a safe stair

What Makes Concrete Stairs Stay Put

Most step problems start underground. A shallow base or loose compaction lets frost heave the concrete away from the house, and a riser that drifts between steps is a trip waiting to happen. We measure the total rise, divide it into equal steps, and excavate to a frost-conscious depth with a compacted granular base.

The concrete itself gets reinforced so the treads and nosing carry weight without cracking. Entry steps are formed tight to the house, and full staircase work handles multi-flight and landing sequences. When existing steps have shifted or cracked, step repair either re-levels them or rebuilds them right.

We finish treads with a grip texture so they are not slippery when wet or snow-covered. The whole job ties cleanly into the walkway or patio it meets.

How it works

Building Concrete Steps the Right Way

  1. Assess the site and measure

We visit the site, measure the total height from grade to door, and calculate equal risers and a comfortable run for every step.

  2. Excavate and compact the base

We dig to frost depth, compact granular base material, and set forms so the steps sit tight and level against the house.

  3. Place reinforcement and pour

Rebar is positioned to carry load at the treads and nosing, then concrete is poured, worked and finished step by step.

  4. Texture, cure and hand off

Treads get a grip finish, the concrete cures, and we give you the date it is ready to use and maintain.

When steps fail

Fixing Concrete Steps That Have Heaved or Cracked

Steps that pull away from the house, crack at the nose, or settle unevenly are not just cosmetic problems. They are a trip hazard and a sign the base or the concrete itself has failed. We diagnose which one it is on a free site visit.

If the base is still sound, step repair can re-level and resurface the concrete. If the base heaved or failed, rebuilding is the right answer. Either way, we tell you straight and give you a written quote. New front entry steps and staircase construction are built so you do not face this problem again.

Common questions

Concrete Step & Stair Questions, Answered

Rise and run, base prep, repair and what step work involves in Detroit.

Because your feet learn the staircase. A riser that varies between steps is the single most common cause of a stumble, so we measure the total height and divide it into equal risers with a consistent run from bottom to top.
Almost always a base problem, steps poured on a shallow or poorly compacted base heave with frost and settle away from the foundation. Front entry steps built on a proper frost-conscious base stay put.
It depends why they moved. If the base is sound, step repair can re-level and resurface them. If the base failed, rebuilding is the honest fix, and we tell you which one it is on the free visit.
Yes. Staircase construction covers multi-flight stairs and landings, formed and reinforced so the treads and nosings carry load without cracking.
Not when they are finished for it. We give treads a grip texture rather than a smooth trowel finish, and the consistent rise means there are no surprises underfoot when the steps are wet or snow-covered.

Our old front steps had pulled off the house and every riser was a different height. The new ones are even, solid, and tight to the door. Huge difference walking up.

Poured a full staircase to a raised deck. Reinforced properly, grip-finished treads, and not a wobble anywhere. Looks built to last.

They re-levelled our settled steps instead of rebuilding because the base was still good. Saved us money and were upfront that it would hold.

Entry steps tied straight into the new walkway. Even rise, textured so they are not slippery, and the crew left the site spotless.
