Restaurant Concrete Floors Built for Detroit Kitchens

Kitchens, wash stations, and dining areas demand different concrete systems. We build slip-rated slab in the kitchen, sloped wash-down flooring where water runs, and polished or coated concrete in front-of-house. Each zone gets the right finish, and the transitions are detailed so the whole floor works as one. Free written estimate.

  • Slip-rated kitchen concrete
  • Sloped wash-down zones
  • Polished dining areas

Three zones, three systems

Why Restaurant Concrete Isn't One-Size-Fits-All

A restaurant floor isn't a single problem. The cooking line runs hot oil, grease, and standing water across concrete that must grip even when wet. The dish pit and prep sinks need sloped flooring that channels water to drains without pooling. The dining room and bar need a finish that looks intentional and handles foot traffic without showing wear. Trying to solve all three with one coating or slab treatment fails at least one zone.

We map each zone's actual use during the estimate, then specify the concrete system that fits. Kitchen gets anti-slip concrete with chemical resistance and documented slip ratings. Wash areas get slope and drain-ready prep. Dining and bar areas get polished concrete or a decorative coating that reads as intentional. The transitions between zones are planned and sealed so the floor feels coordinated, not patched.

This approach carries through all our retail and restaurant concrete work, our broader commercial flooring systems, and related epoxy floor installations in non-restaurant settings. See also brewery and winery flooring for similar multi-zone logic in beverage production.

Our method

How We Build Restaurant Concrete Floors in Detroit

  1. Walk the space with you and your designer

We tour the kitchen, wash stations, and dining areas with you and the kitchen consultant. We identify equipment placement, drain locations, traffic patterns, and the look you want in each zone.

  2. Specify concrete and coating per zone

Kitchen gets slip-rated anti-slip concrete with chemical resistance. Wash areas get sloped slab with drain prep. Dining and bar get polished or decorative concrete. We document the slip rating and chemical specs for insurance.

  3. Prep and pour the slab

Each zone's concrete is ground to the right profile, primed, and the base coat applied. Aggregate is broadcast in slip-rated zones. Topcoat is applied to all zones. Transitions are detailed flush so no trip hazards exist.

  4. Document maintenance and hand off

Each zone gets a written maintenance plan: what cleaners work, how often to scrub, when to reseal. Kitchen, wash, and dining teams each know how to care for their zone so the floor lasts.

Liability and compliance

Slip-Rated Restaurant Concrete Protects Your Insurance

Restaurant slip-and-fall claims are among the costliest in food service. Insurance carriers require documented slip ratings in kitchen and wash-down zones. We specify and install systems that meet or exceed those ratings, then provide the documentation so your carrier and any inspector can verify compliance.

Coordination with your kitchen designer and general contractor is built into every project. Equipment layout, drain placement, and slab slope are planned together so the concrete floor and the kitchen equipment fit without rework. We also align with the broader retail and restaurant concrete scope and any commercial concrete work happening in the same buildout. The result is a floor that's safe, compliant, and built to last.

Common questions

Restaurant Flooring Questions, Answered

Kitchen anti-slip, wash-down systems, front-of-house finishes and insurance requirements.

Because three different environments coexist in one space with different demands. Kitchen needs grip plus chemical resistance, wash-down needs slope plus wet-slip rating, front-of-house needs look plus traffic. One system everywhere compromises all three.
Insurance and industry guidelines define minimum slip ratings for wet and dry conditions. We specify the system to meet or exceed those targets, document the rating, and provide that documentation to your insurance carrier or inspector.
In front-of-house, yes, polished concrete is a strong choice for dining and bar areas. Not in kitchens or wash-down zones, polished concrete is not slip-rated for wet kitchen environments. We use it where it fits and other systems where they fit.
Transitions are planned where it makes sense (often at a doorway or material change), the two systems are detailed to meet flush, and the joint is sealed appropriately. The transition is visible but intentional, not improvised.
Sometimes, where the renovation can be zoned. Kitchen and wash-down work typically requires the kitchen to be down for several days for prep and cure. Front-of-house can sometimes be staged around dining hours. We plan around your operations.
