Seamless Medical Flooring Built for Detroit Clinics

Clinics, hospitals, dental practices, and diagnostic labs in Detroit need concrete floors that stop bacteria at the surface. Seamless epoxy and urethane systems with integrated cove base eliminate the seams and wall gaps where pathogens hide. Antimicrobial chemistry in the topcoat resists biological growth. Detroit Concrete installs these systems to meet infection-control standards. Free written estimate, firm schedule.

Infection control starts at the floor

Why Medical Flooring Demands a Different Approach

Standard commercial floors have seams, grout lines, and a baseboard-to-wall gap. Each one is a harbor for bacteria and viruses. A medical facility's infection-control program cannot tolerate these gaps. The solution is a monolithic concrete floor system that runs seamlessly across the entire space and curves up the wall as an integrated cove base, creating one continuous surface with no crevices.

The system is typically a chemical-resistant epoxy or urethane with antimicrobial additive mixed into the topcoat. It's applied in one pour across the floor and continued as a cove base up the wall several inches before transitioning to the wall finish. Disinfection mops and auto-scrubbers roll across the entire surface without ever encountering a seam. Bacteria cannot survive in a space it cannot hide.

Our commercial epoxy flooring work spans clinics and hospitals. We also handle restaurant kitchen floors and brewery wash-down systems with different chemistry and slope requirements.

Installation sequence

How Medical Flooring Gets Installed in Detroit

  1. Assess facility zones and risk levels

We meet with infection control and facilities staff to map the building by zone (procedure rooms, exam areas, corridors, support spaces) and determine which zones need which antimicrobial system based on cleaning protocols and patient contact.

  2. Grind slab and prep wall junctions

The existing concrete slab is diamond-ground to the system's profile, cracks are filled and sealed, and the wall-floor junction is cleaned and primed. Cove base material is staged and ready to be integrated during the pour.

  3. Apply seamless system with cove

The matched epoxy or urethane with antimicrobial additive is applied seamlessly across the floor and continued as a cove base up the wall to the specified height, creating a single monolithic surface with zero seams in the cleaning path.

  4. Cure and hand off disinfection protocol

The antimicrobial topcoat cures to full hardness, the floor is inspected, and the housekeeping team receives documentation on compatible disinfection chemicals, scrub equipment, and cleaning frequency.

The critical detail

Why Cove Base Stops Infection at the Wall

The wall-floor junction is the highest-bacteria zone in any medical facility. A traditional baseboard sits against the floor with a gap between them, no matter how small. That gap collects biological matter, dust, and cleaning solution residue. Disinfection cannot reach into it. A cove base eliminates the gap entirely. The floor curves up the wall in one continuous piece of cured epoxy or urethane. A mop or auto-scrubber rolls across the transition without ever hitting a seam.

This is the single most important detail in a medical flooring system and the one most often cut from bid jobs to save cost. We do not cut it. Every medical floor we install includes the cove base as part of the spec. It is not optional. Coordinate with commercial concrete flooring work in mixed-use buildings and office and institutional facilities.

Common questions

Medical Flooring Questions, Answered

Seamless systems, cove base, antimicrobial chemistry and infection-control protocols.

Three things: seamless install across the cleaning path, integrated cove base up the wall, and antimicrobial chemistry. All three together support real infection control; missing any one creates the crevice or chemistry gap that bacteria exploits.
Yes. The wall-floor junction is the single highest-bacteria zone in any facility. A vinyl baseboard against a floor has a gap; cove base eliminates it. Infection-control standards require it for procedure and patient-care zones.
Several proven antimicrobial additives integrate into epoxy and urethane systems and inhibit bacterial growth on the surface. We spec the additive based on the facility's infection-control program and the manufacturer recommendation.
Yes, with planning. We zone the install around clinical operations, schedule for low-utilization periods (overnight, weekends, planned closures), and contain dust and odor to keep the rest of the facility operating. Coordination is built into the project plan.
Per zone, typically a few days for prep and install, plus cure before disinfection chemicals can be applied. Whole-facility projects stretch across weeks with careful zoning. The full schedule is in the quote.
