Concrete Bases for Fire Pits & Fire Tables
A fire pit or fire table needs a solid, level concrete base that won't shift under heat or freeze-thaw cycles. Detroit Concrete pours non-combustible pads sized to your fire feature and the seating around it, finished to match your yard's other concrete surfaces. Every project includes a free written estimate before work begins.
- Sized to your fire feature
- Non-combustible concrete base
- Finished to match your yard
Foundation for gathering
Why Fire Pit Pads Matter in Backyard Design
A fire pit pad serves three critical functions. It anchors the weight of the fire feature itself, provides a non-combustible surface that won't ignite from embers or radiant heat, and creates a level, stable zone for seating chairs and benches around the fire. Neglect any of these and the pad either fails structurally or creates a safety hazard.
We excavate to proper depth, compact the base for drainage and stability, and pour air-entrained concrete with reinforcement sized to the fire feature's weight and the surrounding seating load. The finish is broom-textured for grip underfoot, and the shape, whether round, square, or custom, follows your yard's layout.
A fire-pit pad integrates seamlessly with the rest of your outdoor concrete. It can tie directly into a concrete patio, connect to an outdoor kitchen counter, or sit as a standalone gathering point. When designed as part of the whole outdoor living plan, finishes and elevations align perfectly.
The build sequence
Building a Fire Pit Pad Step by Step
-
Measure the fire feature and seating
We assess the fire pit, fire table, or chimenea you own or plan to install, determine how many chairs or benches fit around it, and calculate the clearance required from the house and other structures.
-
Excavate and prepare the base
The area is dug to the correct depth, a compacted granular base is laid for drainage and support, and wooden or metal forms are set to the finished pad shape with a slight slope to shed water.
-
Pour and finish the concrete
Air-entrained concrete is placed, screeded level, and finished with a broom texture for traction. Reinforcement is positioned for strength, and the thickness is matched to the fire feature's weight and the seating load.
-
Control joints and curing
Control joints are cut on a grid to manage thermal movement and freeze-thaw stress. The pad cures to full strength on schedule, and you receive a handoff date when it's ready for the fire feature and your first gathering.
Integrated outdoor spaces
How Fire Pit Pads Connect to Larger Yards
A fire pit rarely stands alone. It pairs naturally with a patio for evening seating, an outdoor kitchen for food prep and cooking, and a pool deck for water-side lounging. When all these concrete elements are designed and poured together, the result is a cohesive outdoor living zone.
Coordinating the fire-pit pad with the wider outdoor living project ensures consistent finishes, proper drainage, and aligned elevations. The fire feature becomes the natural focal point of a finished yard, not an afterthought.

Fire Pit & Fire Table Pad Questions, Answered
Size, clearance, non-combustible bases and how fire-pit pads fit a Detroit yard.
Round concrete pad sized for our fire pit and six chairs. Stable underfoot, broom finish gives grip, and the kids can run around the seating without worry.
Pad ties into the patio so the whole back of the house feels like one space. Sat around the fire on snow days and the pad does not crack or move.
Free-form pad shaped to fit a corner of the yard. Looks intentional, fits the fire table exactly, and the clearance from the fence is right where the bylaw needs it.
Coordinated the fire-pit pad, the outdoor kitchen and the pool deck as one project. Everything matches, everything drains properly, and the yard finally feels finished.
